Unwanted electrical equipment is currently the fastest-growing type of waste in the UK.
Numerous electrical items can be repaired or recycled, preserving natural resources and the environment. Failure to recycle such equipment will result in their disposal in landfills, leading to the leakage of hazardous substances and causing soil and water contamination, which harms wildlife and human health.
We take pride in supporting local authorities in establishing recycling facilities for electrical equipment.
To serve as a reminder that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now labelled with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please refrain from discarding any electrical equipment, including those marked with this symbol, in your regular bin.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive mandates countries to maximize the separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items.
In the UK, distributors and retailers have an obligation to establish a system that allows customers buying new electrical equipment to recycle their old items without any charges. As a responsible retailer, we have met this requirement by actively supporting the nationwide network of WEEE recycling centres, which are established and operated by local authorities.
Our support is made possible through our membership in the National Distributor Take-back Scheme (DTS). It's important to note that although we are not a participating member, our distributors already provide financial contributions to this membership.
