The Lords of the Fallen: release date, trailers, all the info

July 27,2023

Following on from Lords of the Fallen, The Lords of the Fallen finally gives more precision. Originally announced in 2014, the game is finally unveiled after Gamescom 2022.

>> The Lords of the Fallen is already available for pre-order!

>> Gameplay details presented in the video

Always expected for October 13, 2023, Lords of the Fallen has been revealed in a little more detail through a new long gameplay trailer.

We discover different places that will make up your adventure, but also and above all images of combat, facing more or less imposing bosses.

The opportunity to see a little more, especially on ranged combat capabilities. But the most important thing to remember from this new trailer is probably the mechanics of passing from the world of the living to the world of the dead.

Because the particularity of Lords of the Fallen is that death is not final, since we continue our way in the world of the dead. We can also, from the world of the living, have a glimpse of the world of the dead thanks to a special lamp, which can make us want to change worlds to discover other secrets. A trailer that really makes you want to see more.

LORDS OF THE FALLEN - Extended Gameplay Presentation | Pre-Order Now on PC, PS5 & Xbox Series X|S

Released in 2014, Lords of the Fallen is an Action-RPG. The game is intended to resemble the Dark Souls license with a more affordable aspect, and therefore a lower difficulty. Despite mixed reviews from the specialized press, it still got a lot of talk about it when it started, and developer CI Games therefore announced a second opus in the process, in 2014 for a release scheduled for 2017.

Since then, many misadventures have happened to the studio. Among them, we first had a change of direction in CI Games in 2015. As a result, the studio decided to relocate a large part of the production to China, initially based in Poland.

Subsequently, while the game was supposed to be released in 2017, it was postponed to a later date, with CI Games giving no further explanation, as the development of the game was put on hold.

It is in 2018 that the license will be talked about again. Indeed, CI Games then relaunched the development of the sequel to Lords of the Fallen by partnering with another studio: Defiant Studio. The latter is then a very young studio having worked on Just Cause 3. However, Defiant then starts from scratch, even after 3 years of work.

In 2019, a twist! While development seems to be going well, Defiant is presenting a 10-minute playable build to CI Games. The quality of this version being too insufficient for the taste of the Polish studio, Defiant was dismissed from the project, which fell into the hands of CI Games.

From this moment, no news is really given by the studio. Only an interview with the president of CI Games will talk about the game in 2020, the latter saying that everything is going well, finally. He also explains that the team is made up of 49 developers, including 9 people dedicated to quality (surely not to reproduce the fiasco with Radiant).

Also in 2020, CI Games has grown well into being a studio/publisher. As a result, a new studio is opened to work exclusively on the project: Hexworks. But don't panic, everything is going well.

>> Finally, we arrive in 2022, during Gamescom. The game is then officially announced, and the first trailer is presented:

The Lords of the Fallen - Announcement Trailer | PS5 Games

With this trailer, we immediately find the atmosphere of the first opus, close to that of Dark Souls, and therefore of the game phenomenon Elden Ring. The action RPG also takes the opportunity to reveal its new name to us, moving from Lords of the Fallen 2 to The Lords of the Fallen.

>> A trailer and a release date

The Lords of the Fallen went without giving any news for a long time, between August 2022 and May 2023. However, the return of the project to the front of the stage is being done with great fanfare, with a release date to begin with. Indeed, initially scheduled for 2023, the game confirms its window by specifying that it will be on October 13, 2023, and this on PS5, Xbox Series and PC.

For this occasion, a trailer has been published, which allows us to learn more about the history of the game. The beginning of the trailer puts us directly in the mood: "The city of Mournstead has fallen and its great army has been decimated by the soldiers of Adyr, the Demon God.

As for the visual aspect, we can see that Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 is still breathtaking. The style makes us think of a game that caused a lot of talk, voted Game of the Year at the last Game Awards ceremony, named Elden Ring. Especially since the style of play is the same. A strategy to attract players of the best game of the year 2022?

The Lords of the Fallen is scheduled for October 13, 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC!
